Leader: Have your Student write down the Passage and the Questions then, give them a week to prepare.
Passage: John 3:22-36
Questions:
- 1) Make a list of everything that John the Baptist tells us about Jesus and cite the verse.

Then, this week the Student will:
- Read the Passage every day!
- Handwrite the Passage

When you do meet again, you will go over this…
John 3:22-36
22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. 23 Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized. 24 (This was before John was put in prison.) 25 An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing. 26 They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.”
27 To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ 29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30 He must become greater; I must become less.”
31 The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. 33 Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. 34 For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
Notes for Leader:
Open your time together with prayer. Be sure to ask the Holy Spirit to lead the conversation and teach what needs to be learned and heard during your discussion. He will give you the words that you need! May you grow closer together and closer to Jesus.
Briefly review what you learned last week. Now, let’s see what else we can discover about who Jesus is…
Here is what we noticed.
1) Make a list of everything that John the Baptist tells us about Jesus and cite the verse.
- v.31 comes from above — also in John 3:13
- v.31 is above all (says this twice)
- v.32 testifies to what He has seen and heard –also in John 3:11, John 1:32-34, but the Testimony is rejected
- v.34 God has sent Him — also in John 3:17
- v.34 speaks the words of God — also in John 1:1-3, 14-15, 18
- v.34 gives the Spirit without limit — also in John 3:6-8
- v.35 loved by the Father
- v.36 whoever believes in the Son has eternal life — also in John 3:16-17
This passage contains much of the same information as what John said in John 1:19-34 and what Jesus tells Nicodemus in John 3:1-21.
2) What questions do you have?
Don’t be nervous about this one… the Holy Spirit will help you answer. If you are discipling a young child (and most others!), remember that they are not expecting a doctoral dissertation when you answer, so keep it simple and true. And, it is ok to say, “I am not sure, let’s look into that together.” And then add that question to your study for next week.
Enjoy the conversation!
Now, look ahead to next week’s study and give your student the next passage and questions to prepare this coming week.
