Book of John,  Discipleship

#2 John 1:3-13

Leader:  Have your Student write down the Passage and the Questions then they have a week to prepare.

Passage:  John 1:3-13

Question:  1) Who is Jesus?

Then, this week the Student will:

  • Read the Passage every day!
  • Handwrite the Passage
  • Answer the questions

When you do meet again, you will go over this…

 John 1:3-13

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Notes for Leader:

Open your time together with prayer. Be sure to ask the Holy Spirit to lead the conversation and teach what needs to be learned and heard during your discussion. He will give you the words that you need! May you grow closer together and closer to Jesus.

Yes, there is only one question! And, yes, it is the same question that you answered last week! (And, you will look at this again next week!) Answers to this question can be found in almost every verse of this passage.

Here is what we noticed.

1) Who is Jesus?

  • v.3 Through Him all things were made — he is the Creator God
  • v.4 In Him was life
  • v.5 The Light shines in the darkness
  • v.7 John testifies to the Light
  • v.8 he was a witness to the light
  • v.9 the True Light… was coming into the world
  • v.10 though the world was made through Him — Creator
  • v.12-13 To those who receive Him = children of God, born of God

**Jesus=Light

**Jesus=Creator

**Jesus=Life

**Jesus=Savior/Connects God and man

**Jesus=center of our spiritual family

Enjoy the conversation!

Now, look ahead to next week’s study and give your student the next passage and questions to prepare this coming week.

I’m loving the discipleship that is happening in our house. So many great conversations that we are having. We are growing and changing! I wish I could post a picture of my 7 year olds handwriting it’s sweet, large and messy all at the same time 🙂
