#1 John 1:1-2,14-18
Leader: Have your Student write down the Passage and the Questions then they have a week to prepare.
Passage: John 1:1-2, 14-18
Questions: 1) Who is Jesus?
Then, this week the Student will:
- Read the Passage every day!
- Handwrite the Passage
- Answer the questions
When you do meet again, you will go over this…
John 1:1-2,14-18
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
Notes for Leader:
Open your time together with prayer. Be sure to ask the Holy Spirit to lead the conversation and teach what needs to be learned and heard during your discussion. He will give you the words that you need! May you grow closer together and closer to Jesus.
Yes, there is only one question! Answers to this question can be found in almost every verse of this passage.
Here is what we noticed.
1) Who is Jesus?
- v.1 In the beginning —> Jesus existed before anything else
- Was the Word —> communicates to us
- v.1 Jesus was God. Jesus was with God
- v.2 He was with God in the beginning
- Jesus is God/with God (This is repeated from verse one, so it must be important!)
- v.1,14 Jesus is the Word
- Became flesh (Jesus was man)
- v.14 came from the Father
- v.17 completion of the Old Testament
- v.18 Jesus at the Father’s side/ with God
- v.18 God the One & Only Son has seen the Father
- Jesus is God, made the Father known
**Jesus=pre-existant
**Jesus=the Word
**Jesus=God
**Jesus=Light
**Jesus=flesh/man
**Jesus=fulfillment of the Old Testament
Enjoy the conversation!
Now, look ahead to next week’s study and give your student the next passage and questions to prepare this coming week.
Here is a sample of one of my kiddos!
Notice, we have them write the passage and questions on the top of the right hand page. Then, when they work on this during the week, they can answer the question on the right page, but they can copy the passage on the left page. That way everything they need is in front of them and they don’t have to flip between pages.
When we are done discussing this together, I have them turn the page and I tell them the passage that they will be studying next week and what the questions are… they write those on the top of the right hand page. Then we close for the week and they are set up for their week of study.
